CHIME and HP Support IT Innovation in Healthcare with New Scholarship
ANN ARBOR, MI, March 1, 2010 – The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and HP are now accepting applications for a newly created scholarship that funds continuing education programs for future healthcare IT leaders.
The HP Innovation in Healthcare Scholarship covers tuition and travel fees for 10 recipients to attend the CHIME Healthcare CIO Boot Camp, CHIME's intensive two-and-a-half day program that combines presentations, small-group discussions, case studies and interactive problem solving to teach participants the real-world skills necessary to become an effective healthcare CIO.
“With this new scholarship, HP is helping CHIME add to its already impressive arsenal of resources that help build a strong foundation for the next generation of healthcare IT leaders,” said Roger Browning, manager, Enterprise Marketing, Personal Systems Group, HP.
The scholarship is open to individuals who want to drive innovation in health care, express a sincere interest in developing or enhancing a career as a healthcare IT leader, and are current CHIME members or report to a current CHIME member at the time of application and program attendance.
Completing the CHIME Healthcare CIO Boot Camp earns attendees continuing education units that can be applied toward the Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO) certification program, which gives CIOs the chance to position themselves as leaders within the industry. CHCIO is one of the many professional development tools – such as hosting continuing education and networking sessions – that CHIME offers its members.
“The industry is changing, and a successful CIO needs to be able to adapt,” said Rich Correll, president and chief executive officer, CHIME. “With HP’s contributions, we’re better equipped to provide our members with resources to make them valuable healthcare IT leaders through all stages of their careers.”
In addition to providing a resume, candidates apply by submitting an essay that outlines their goals as a future healthcare IT leader and suggestions for innovative uses of technology to improve patient care. A letter of recommendation from an immediate supervisor advocating the applicant’s participation in the CHIME CIO Boot Camp also is required.
